Project

Deck Staining and Garage Floor Coating in Beaufort, NC

We gave this Beaufort property a serious upgrade. The deck got a deep clean and a rich stain, and the garage got a durable, professional grade epoxy coating.

About this project

Two very different surfaces, one visit. Coastal wood needs to be cleaned and dried before stain will soak in, and concrete needs to be prepped before a coating will grip.

The finished deck and porch ceiling are protected from sun and moisture, and the garage floor is sealed, easy to clean and built to last.

The challenge

This job had two very different surfaces. The deck and porch ceiling were wood that had been through plenty of coastal weather. The garage was bare concrete that stained easily and never looked finished.

Each one needed its own prep. Wood has to be cleaned and fully dry before stain will soak in. Concrete has to be cleaned and opened up before a coating will grip it. Skipping either step is how stain peels and how epoxy lifts.

What we did

  1. Deep clean the deck. Dirt, mildew and weathered fibers came off so the wood could take stain.
  2. Let it dry. We gave the wood time to dry out completely before staining.
  3. Stain the deck and ceiling. Even coats of a rich stain on the deck boards and the tongue and groove porch ceiling.
  4. Prep the garage floor. The concrete was cleaned and prepped so the coating would bond.
  5. Coat the floor. A professional grade epoxy system with a flake finish for a clean, durable surface.

Why doing both made sense

Combining the two projects meant one schedule and one crew instead of two separate jobs. The homeowner ended up with protected wood outside and a sealed, easy to clean floor in the garage, finished in the same visit.

Questions about staining and epoxy

How long does an epoxy garage floor last?

With good prep and normal care, a quality epoxy floor holds up for years. The prep is what makes the difference.

How soon can I use my garage again?

Foot traffic is usually fine within a day or so. Cars need longer, often several days, depending on the coating and the weather. We'll give you the exact timing.

How often should a deck be restained?

It depends on sun and exposure. When water stops beading up and soaks into the boards, it's time.

Can you stain a porch ceiling too?

Yes. Tongue and groove porch ceilings, rails and trim can all be stained or painted along with the deck.

Do you work outside of Beaufort?

Yes. We serve all of Carteret County, including Morehead City, Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach and the surrounding towns.
