Nothing dates a room faster than an old popcorn ceiling. We take it down, give you a smooth or knockdown finish, and paint it so the whole room feels new.
Popcorn texture was everywhere for a few decades, and a lot of homes in Carteret County still have it. It catches dust and cobwebs, it yellows over time, and any water stain shows up like a spotlight.
It's also hard to touch up. Paint it and the texture can loosen. Patch it and the patch never quite matches. Eventually most people decide it's easier to start over.
Once it's gone, you can go smooth for a clean modern look or add a knockdown texture, which hides small imperfections and still feels updated.

The old texture comes down and the ceiling gets cleaned up for its new finish.
A flatter, more modern texture that hides minor flaws in the drywall.
Cracks, seams and old water stains get fixed before anything new goes on.
Primed and painted so it's bright, even and finished.
The room gets cleared or covered, and the floors and walls are protected. If your home is old enough that the texture could contain asbestos, it gets tested first. That's not optional.
From there the texture is softened and scraped off, the ceiling is repaired where it needs it, and you choose smooth or knockdown. Last comes primer and paint.
Most people pair this with repainting the walls. The ceiling looks new, and suddenly the walls don't. If you're thinking that way, we'll quote both together.
"We had adam paint our bathroom, he did an excellent job and am looking forward to having more work done. He was very professional and knowledgeable we will use him for all our drywall and painting projects in the future."

A smooth ceiling looks the most modern, but it shows every flaw in the drywall underneath. Knockdown has a soft, flattened texture that hides small seams and dents and still looks current.
If the drywall under the old texture is in good shape, smooth is a great choice. If it's rough, knockdown is often the smarter call. We'll tell you which way we'd go once we see it.
Scraping a ceiling looks simple in a video. In real life it's heavy, messy, overhead work, and the ceiling under the texture usually needs repair before it looks right. Gouges, seams and old patches all show up once the popcorn is gone.
We handle the whole thing, from protecting the room to the final coat of paint, so you end up with a finished ceiling, not a half done project.
Most people stay in the home while we work. We take one room or area at a time, seal it off, and keep the mess contained there. The rest of the house stays usable.
We'll walk through the order with you before we start so you can plan around bedrooms, the kitchen and anything else you need to keep using.
Not always, but removing them gives a smoother, more modern finish. If the texture is old, damaged or stained, removal is usually the better choice. We offer popcorn ceiling removal and knockdown texture throughout Carteret County, so the ceiling is ready for fresh paint.
It can be. Popcorn texture applied before the mid 1980s may contain asbestos. If your home is that old, have the ceiling tested before anyone scrapes it. It's a simple step, and it's not one to skip.
It's one of the messier jobs in painting, which is why the room gets emptied and covered before the work starts. Done right, the mess stays contained to the room.
Sometimes. Small stains can be sealed and painted, but patched popcorn rarely matches the rest of the ceiling. If the texture is old or damaged, removing it usually looks better and costs less in the long run.
It depends on the number of rooms, the condition of the drywall underneath and whether you want smooth or knockdown. We'll give you a realistic schedule with your estimate.
