Project

Full Exterior Repaint in Morehead City, NC

This coastal home got a complete exterior repaint with high quality, weather resistant coatings. The result is crisp lines, lasting protection and a lot more curb appeal.

About this project

Homes this close to the water take steady salt and wind, and it shows on paint first. This house needed the full treatment, from the upper walls down to the porch ceilings.

The job covered the siding, trim and porch details, using a lift to reach the upper floors safely. Like every exterior we do, the prep came before the color.

The challenge

This house sits close enough to the water to take steady salt, wind and sun. That combination is hard on paint. The sides facing the water wear first, trim starts to chalk and peel, and porch ceilings collect mildew in the shade.

It's also a tall house. The upper walls needed a lift to reach safely and to give the crew a steady platform for real prep work, not just paint at arm's length.

Our exterior process

  1. Wash. Salt, dirt and mildew come off so the new paint bonds to the house, not the grime.
  2. Scrape and sand. Loose paint gets removed and edges get feathered so they don't show through.
  3. Prime and caulk. Bare wood gets primed and open joints get sealed against water.
  4. Paint. Body, trim and porch details get finished with coatings made for coastal exposure.
  5. Walk through. We look at the finished house with the owner before we pack up.

Why the prep matters here

Most exterior paint that fails near the water doesn't fail because of the paint. It fails because it went on over salt, mildew or chalky old coatings. Taking the time to clean and prep is what gives a coastal repaint a chance to last.

It's the part of the job you don't see in the after photos. It's also the part that decides whether you're repainting again in a few years or a lot longer than that.

Questions about exterior repaints

How much does an exterior repaint like this cost?

Most homes in Carteret County fall between $2.50 and $5.00 per square foot. Size, height, condition and the products you choose all move the number. Your estimate is free and written out.

Do you use a lift on tall houses?

When a house is tall enough to need it, yes. A lift lets the crew reach upper walls safely and do proper prep instead of stretching from a ladder.

Can you paint my house while I'm away?

Yes. You don't need to be home for exterior work. We just need access to water and power.

How long will a coastal repaint last?

It depends on exposure and upkeep. A yearly wash and quick touch ups on the sunny and water facing sides go a long way.

Do you also paint interiors?

Yes. We paint interiors all over Carteret County, from single rooms to whole houses.
